Why you should wash your hands – BEFORE and AFTER food? More than just hygiene.
Islamic Pulse recently posted that "The sunnah of the Holy Prophet (S) is to to wash the hands before and after eating." This is easily recognised as an important issue of hygiene with regards to washing your hands before eating, and commonly taught in the west. However, according to the Purified Household, Peace Be Upon Them, hygiene is NOT the only reason why we should follow this sunnah. Not only is the washing of the hands recommended, but performing ablution before and after food also has benefits other than the obvious one of being "constantly in the state purity". It is innately built in to humans that we idolise champions, take lead from and are impressed upon by role models. One of the best and most influential ways to grow and develop is through the knowledge of an appropriate role model. The more that role model is apparent and complete, the more attractive they are. Parable 48: Is faith without deed of any value?
In the Qur’an, faith and pious deeds come together {آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ} those that believe, and do deeds of righteousness, like a needle and thread that need to work together, for which otherwise if the thread is not through the eye of the needle would not be able to sew anything.
